A terrible word for a terrible week I sat you all down and started a speech The gist of it was no-one talks of death Before I was done everybody had left The sun shines The sun shines The sun shines The sun shines When you’re welcomed home It really makes your day The sun shines The sun shines The sun shines The sun shines I was meaning to ask how you manage so well If you open the blinds it’s as clear as a bell A terrible word for a terrible week The sun shines The sun shines The sun shines The sun shines The sun shines The sun shines The sun shines

Distraction 02:50
It’s just a distraction It’s just a distraction It’s just a distraction It’s just a distraction Huh Ooh, my loins ache madness and fever Ooh, my loins are aching for you Is this a distraction? Just a distraction It’s just a distraction I’m at home with a phone and I’m all alone You know that we sacrifice Precious moments of our lives I just want to be with you Because it’s something I want to do It’s all because of my Distraction It’s just a distraction It’s just a distraction It’s just a distraction We never know it Until it hits us This time is money we forgot To calculate Distraction Distraction I’m over here You're over there I’m over here You're over there You're over here And I’m over there

I don’t want to get sucked in to the family business I do not want to be part of the family business I’ve got to get out of this town It’s only going to glue me down Because the kid who threw rocks in my face Will be the boss of me someday I don’t want to get sucked in to the family business I’ve got to get out of this town I’ve got to get out of this town I’ve got to get out of this town I’ve got to get out of this town I’ve got to get out of this town I’ve got to get out of this town I’ve got to get out of this town

You have to visit my tombstone You have to promise to come back every year You have to visit my tombstone I will be buried in an exclusive plot I planned it and signed all the papers It cost a year’s wages to install me there But I’m attracted to the high life And we will sing at the post-burial Of all the love that we have wasted It’s quite a distance away from the main gates You can faintly hear the traffic There’s a gardener who comes once a week To throw out all the dead flowers And we will sing at the post-burial Of all the love that we have wasted And there’s some famous people across the way Which has been cordoned off by fences So when my shabby days come to an end At least I’ll recognise some faces I will be buried in an exclusive plot

It’s a slow day But they’ve been like this for some time now I have my long lens And I can see if anyone tries to come up my path I keep my prey in a darkened cage Because you’re never sure whether it is going to rain I burn a fire so I can stay outside I keep the wood in columns of neat piles I’ve a story about a young man Who couldn’t read signs so he trespassed on my land And I could see him combing through trees Until a column appeared and dropped him to his knees He retraced his steps and noticed newer things And I blushed with pride because he never noticed me But as he went away I started feeling sad So I ran and ran but couldn’t catch up with that lad These three things clutter up my mind Don’t mess with my collection Don’t mess with my collection Teeny things all locked up inside Don’t mess with my collection Don’t mess with my collection These three things clutter up my mind Don’t mess with my collection Don’t mess with my collection Teeny things all locked up inside Don’t mess with my collection Don’t mess with my collection

Rumours dogged us every evening There was only one It concerned naked flesh followed by a puritanical sermon But we swear it wasn’t like that, like that, like that We swear Bar is closed now You should go home Where’s your handbag? Is this your wallet? You can stave off some misfortune By starting anew I could say I wasn’t flashing, trashing The claims that I grew This guy saw it with his own eyes Saliva and tongues and a rope! But we realise your views Are only sad pleas For company

Up to the age of 23 I kept my own private company One day an acquaintance said to me “Let me join your secret society” It was a weathered stone It needed lots of scrubbing There were sheets and clothes Which needed a thorough washing The club was a little lonely I let her join my society The rules were written down for clarity I saw an end to my monopoly And I kept pressing the point That societies go stagnant Without new voices Laziness will run rampant Recruited more members And formed a new committee The first decree was set Strive for massive publicity Yeeeah! I lost my credibility In my own secret society I saw no need for privacy I don’t want that to be my legacy I don’t want that to be my legacy I don’t want that to be my legacy It was a weathered stone It needed lots of scrubbing There were sheets and clothes Which needed a thorough washing And I kept pressing the point That societies go stagnant Without new voices Laziness will run rampant It was a weathered stone

You’ve got my head in a whirl You’ve got my head in a whirl You’ve got my head in a whirl It’s not right! OK, now what have you heard? OK, now what have you heard? OK, now what have you heard? Are you right? Or not? You’ve got my head in a head in a head in a head in a Head in a whirl A whirl! I don’t feel right My heart is aching I can’t explain what I think again But you’re always putting the blame on me On a village road I played at racetrack I hurt my arm in the crash as well But you’re always putting the blame on me It’s a rites thing Or you’re maybe just a drama queen I don’t think I’m gonna stay to find out I taught my sons how to do handstands, I’d say “You give up and you’ll never be a man” Now one’s a lawyer, the other one’s on the stand But you’re always putting the blame on me A mad staring makes you question your mind So check your pockets and be selfless and kind I may have bungled it But I’m still a part of it And that’s right! You’re always putting the blame on me I’m all confused, I don’t know what you have heard You’ve got some juice, you’ve got my head in a whirl You’ve got my head in a whirl!

I don’t think I can satisfy I don’t think I can satisfy you How can I? Please tell me why I don’t think I can satisfy you I don’t think I can satisfy you The word is out I’ve got a feeling that It’s over now Oh, tell me why I don’t think I can satisfy you I don’t think I can satisfy you

In a bygone era, when you didn’t look up Unless things were falling down It was never considered Important to keep studying the ground When the pink and the yellow Combined to form a canvas with the bleeding red We all started to shiver And we hid inside our bathrooms to escape the dread If it’s a lightning storm you’ll see it If it’s a lightning storm then it’s no contest I hope you choose not to ignore it Because you’ll miss the things that we all like best I saw a glass topple off a building And it only missed my head by a few hair strands So can you save those before they start dropping? Is it a blue sky or the kicking of empty cans? I caught a boy out on the rooftops He was sniffing hurriedly remainders of the pops (And with a bird’s eye view you were crawling) The streetlamp orange was glowing If it’s a lightning storm you’ll see it If it’s a lightning storm then it’s no contest If it’s a lightning storm you’ll see it If it’s a lightning storm then it’s no contest (see, he’s hungry, see, he’s hungry keep in the tree, keep in the tree)

Never Have Another Boy In My Life In my hometown I made out with quite a few In my hometown I only ever wanted you It wasn’t that boy who made me lose sleep It wasn’t that boy I wanted to keep You tortured me Did you know and did it feel right? Because when we dug our hole in the ground and crawled in I wish it had been an endless night It wasn’t that boy who made me lose sleep It wasn’t that boy I wanted to keep No, it was you boy, you tore out my heart Because of you boy, I’ve fallen apart Never have another boy in my life Never have another boy in my life Never have another boy in my life Never have another boy in my life It wasn’t that boy who made me lose sleep It wasn’t that boy I wanted to keep

Smokejumper 01:32
I’m a smokejumper I’m smokejumper I’m a smokejumper I’ve got a stack of cash But that’s an added bonus I get to go up And jump out of planes I’m just digging the earth Digging the earth Planting the trees Parachuting down I’ve got a stack of reading To get through I need all this time off To be with you ‘cause I’m a smokejumper I’m smokejumper I’m a smokejumper I’m one of four hundred I feel honoured If maybe you’ve wondered I feel honoured I’ve got a stack of cash And pretty girls at my door I owe a stack of tax But who will ever know? I’m a I’m a Smokejumper Smokejumper I’m a smokejumper I’m a smokejumper The gobbler burned so we withdrew Watched the trees die and fires roar I’m a smokejumper

My black year My black bottle of beer I knocked it back But I felt the same Another drunk Passed out on the table in front A well-thumbed dictionary by his side A faded page in the back Some random numbers scrawled in black And in bold letters were three words: “You care because…” My black days I tried to mend my old ways But you know how difficult it is to change A door which slams Interrupting all of our plans Useless papers scattered all over the floor I had no family history Because it was never taught to me The faded photographs in the loft were all thrown out It was all in my black year It was all in my black year Sunbathing as soon as the snow is gone Waking up when you’ve lost someone I’ve wasted time and I don’t have long I realise now It was all in my black year It was all in my black year My black year My black bottle of beer My black year My black bottle of beer

Threw Me 04:01
You’re talking right through me I can say nothing Now You’re talking right through me I will stay silent Now And when I heard it I thought There must be something in the water making the fish die Why did you waste all our money when there’s nothing to buy? You’re talking right through me I can say nothing Now You’re talking right through me I will stay silent Now And what I say is All the miscommunication leads to an inevitable path The path is swamped, our clothes are damp and we both learned nothing from the past The words we say are white on white I don’t know how long this can all last! You’re talking right through me I can say nothing Now You’re talking right through me I will stay silent Now We need to change coordinates because the plane is going to go down Every time we raise objections we’re told not to bother you now And saying something isn’t one thing Nothing to turns to something somehow! You’re talking right through me I can say nothing Now You’re talking right through me I will stay silent Now We once climbed the fence at night To get into rich private ground But today we just argue about when we get the bus into town Etch a lie
